Menorca's Best Beaches
Often overlooked by it's more popular neighbours (Ibiza & Mallorca), the low-key island of Menorca may be small, but it's home to some of the best beaches in the world. The coastline is studded with flawless sandy coves and turquoise waters so bright, you'll need to desaturate your photos to properly view them. However, what's most surprising is how few EuroTrips include this gem of an island! Could it be Menorca is THAT low-key? If so, it's possibly one of the best kept secrets of the Mediterranean. An incredibly romantic and lazy island encompassing the true essence of summer, if your interests include hiking, swimming, boating and/or sun bathing, then Menorca is the place to be! (And if none of the above trigger your interest, you're reading the wrong blog.)
Definitely base yourself in Cituadella, Menorca's lovely marina town, where colourful buildings and cobblestone streets house the endless array of tapas bars, and Abarca sandals outnumber the population of the island. Seriously, everyone is wearing them.
With so many stunning beaches to choose from, here are 4 places you're going to want to lay a towel down and stay forever:
1. Cala Macarelleta
Day hikes and picnics will take you along the coast where you'll find Cala Macarella and it's little sister Cala Macarelleta. In my opinion, this is the nicest Cala on the island, but if you're curious and want to hike some more, Cala en Turqueta is about 30 minutes further.
2. Es Trenc
Maybe you've visited Es Trenc in Mallorca. Of course, you're initial thought is 'Wow this is just like the Caribbean if not better!' My thoughts exactly...until I saw Es Trenc in Menorca. Heavenly does not even begin to describe it. As soon as you lay your eyes on it’s crystal clear shallow waters, you’ll be ruined forever.
3. Cala Escorxada
"Anything in life worth having is worth working for." This definitely applies to Cala Escorxada. A 40-minute hike along the rocky coast will provide you with breathtaking views and pure paradise at the finish line.
4. Cala Pregonda
Not your classic white sand beach, but that's what makes Cala Pregonda so unique. The contrast of the striking orange rocks with the aqua blue water is what makes this spot so unforgettable.
